Saawan/Monsoon Special: Leheriya/lahariya of Rajasthan
A marwari word lehar which means stream has its origin of Lehariya or Lahariya or Leharia name.
A traditional art of tying and dying originated from the state of Rajasthan is practised since the time of its invention in the 19th century. The art is done on clothes that are used for various purposes like making sarees, lehenga, safa, kurta, dupattas etc. with simple designs or adorned with gota Patti work or kundan or embroidery work done by weavers and local villagers there.
It is a beautiful art of tying and dying of color combinations or multi color combinations in a zigzag or stripe style giving a flowing, wavy look like a stream of water.
The design comprises an integral part of traditions of Rajasthani people and is well adorned by them in festivals and occasions especially during the monsoon or the saawan season.
